M-119

Tonight is a Michigan, Up North, kind of night.

It even has that cool, clean smell about it in the air. So naturally, I’m thinking Northern thoughts.

Picturing myself back at Douglas Lake, Good Hart … Mackinaw Island … all my favorite places.

Which brings me to: The Tunnel of Trees. Better known as the M-119.

Quite possibly the best road. Ever. In our great country.

What’s not to love about a road with a name like that? It’s like it’s just meant to be for anyone to insta-like.

The M-119 is home to Good Hart. An Up North resort area, nestled right along Lake Michigan. It is stunning. In a very unassuming, low key way.

You can’t go to Good Hart without a stop at its charming and endearing General Store.

And believe me, it is just that: a general store. Complete with a post office, deli, bakery, real estate office, and everything and anything else you may want or need. Speaking of the bakery, I snapped this shot as I was waiting for my oven-warmed peanut butter cookie.

I can’t even begin to tell you how disappointed I was when I took my first mouth watering bite and thought, what the hell is wrong with this thing?!

Two words: Gluten Free.

Oh, the let down. I went back for the real deal. There’s just no comparison. I’ll take the gluten kind any day.

And here’s a couple shots of Lake Michigan. Are you as surprised as I was to discover how clear the water is?

I wonder how Good Hart got its name? Funny I’m just now asking that question. I’ve always thought it’s the perfect name for a town.

Good. Hart. That sums up life pretty damn well, doesn’t it?

All of us should try to do good and be good in what we do and who we do it with. Keeping the heart at the forefront.
