Home Stretch.

I am gearing up for my final week of school.

This is THE week, the one where at the beginning of a school year I thought would never come. That was just so far away.

Like all things, it arrives. The time is now upon us.

I’m feeling wildly nostalgic. Amazed, too. How quick these days passed. How fortunate I am to do something I truly enjoy, and to spend my working hours with kids that I just think the whole damn world of.

Teaching is a lot of things, the drain it takes, the demands, trying to meet the emotional and learning needs of so many different individuals — and yes, while it is all these things, it’s also all the good stuff that I feel doesn’t get much air time anymore.

It’s the FUN. Did you hear that, People! FUN. Teaching is fun and it damn well should be. We need to bring fun and light heartedness and care back in to our schools.

When my kids look back on all those days and hours we logged together that made up their high school career, I want them to {hopefully} realize it was fun. They might not know how to put together one French sentence, but I don’t care.

If they know themselves better. If they know how to love better. If they are positively influencing others. That’s all that really matters.
