How To ?

Not hurt feelings?

I’ve been thinking about this the past two days — since that’s when we went to check out the preschool {what the WHAT – that’s a discussion for another time} that FoH most likely is going to be attending come August.

One of the rooms we visited, had an adorable little boy, who immediately came up to FoH and asked him if he’d like to play blocks.

FoH’s answer? NO.

I instantly saw the hurt on the little boy’s face, the way his entire demeanor changed. and you guys. I didn’t know what to do.

Like no idea.

I felt like I should have, ya know, since I’m an adult and a parent and all that fancy jazz.

This little big truth came back to me: no matter what we do, regardless of how kind and aware we are, inevitably, we will hurt feelings.

It’s just human nature.

I guess the thing I want my kid to know is: it’s not personal. Not everyone will want to play with you. Not everyone will want to beĀ  your friend. And that is okay. Find your people, because they ARE out there.

And when you find them, hold on to them. With both hands, preferably.
