Happiness.

I remember once, when I was feeling really down, someone said to me:

You just need to decide to be happy.

At the time, it royally pissed me off. I had so many justifications for being in my hopeless state. Nothing was going right. At least that’s how it felt.

I can look back at that time with much appreciation, and as it turns out — that comment was one that made a huge impact on my life.

Eventually, I did realize that the only key to happiness, was to just … be happy.

With whatever I could. No matter how trivial or childish it seemed.

In this day and age where there is literally a pill for everything, I think we spend a lot of time outside of ourselves looking for and seeking an elusive happiness. Which does not come.

We switch to the next drug or activity … hoping that finally, we’ll feel better. Who doesn’t want a quick fix?

Nothing outside of us will ever give us what it is we’re looking for. It’s not possible — this is one of the natural laws of The Universe at work.

I get this happiness thing.

Not because I’m always happy, but because I’ve been there and back. And I promise, it really can be as simple as making the conscious effort and decision to get your happy on.

Regardless of everything and everyone else that we feel might be negative or bringing us down.

Those things only fuel a greater desire for happy.
