Batter’s Up.

IMG_7538As with most toys and sports equipment that we currently own — it disappears as fast as we purchase it.

I just can’t figure out what exactly has happened to the other eight soccer balls. Where the hell did they go?! HOW does this happen?

I don’t know, other than : It just does.

FoH has been super into baseball lately, and we needed to get some more wiffle balls and bats. FoH ran ahead to beat me to it and I was greeted by this sight.

My initial reaction was: we’re not getting the bat. Not the real one.

And then he asked the one question I knew he would: WHY?

I thought about it. Why? He plays all the time with Brother. He wants to do ball in the spring.

If he wants to get better at his skills and be ready for baseball, why not get the actual bat?

I don’t want to hold FoH back — ever. There’s a balance between what is safe and appropriate and what’s not. Yet I also have to realize, it most likely is going to be ME that is the one who isn’t ready for what comes next and it is good for my kid to question me and for me to question my parenting reasons.

My heart filled with such joy for him as I watched him hit ball after ball in TC’s backyard off that bat … can’t wait to see the places it takes him.
