Remember those long, drawn out before bedtime summer nights?
The ones where you ran around with all the other neighborhood kids, playing tag and trying to catch fire flies?
I had a McDonald’s Happy Meal pail that I poked holes in — I can still see it so clearly. How perfect of a temporary home it made as I chased and caught as many of these magical green creatures as I could.
My childhood memories vividly recall what seemed like hundreds of fireflies lighting up the night sky.
Surely it couldn’t have been that many — yet I am certain that it is more than what I see now.
This is summer to me : the sky fading with green flashes of light blinking away.
