For Two+ Years.

I’ve been wanting to go canoeing.

That’s a long time for a Taurus. A very long time, I might add. We Bulls aren’t always known for our patience.

But today, patience paid off.

That’s right, this May-day girl went canoeing. For three hours and six whole miles.

Not bad for a first timer, huh?

One of my favorite sites, that just so happens to also be a historical feat of wonder is Fort Ancient.

This is one of the oldest, most ancient sites in our country. Over 2,000 years old.

Yeah, it’s almost a bit much for me take in at once. Ancient peoples. Clearly advanced. What the hell was up with all those mounds anyway?

There’s many theories, from spiritual to scientific. What I find especially interesting is that much of the design corresponds with the sun, moon and stars. Example – some of the sites are perfectly timed for the sunrise and sunset on the Solstice and Equinox.

I love taking in the energy of that area, and there is some craaaazy energy. It was neat to have a different perspective out on the river … imagining what it was like for the Hopewell’s thousands of years before.

Amazing to think it doesn’t look all that different and that here I am, all this time later, crossing the same waters they once did.

It really was the quintessential fall day. I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect, spell binding way to spend a fall afternoon.

Gorgeous weather — low 80s, warm sunshine, sparkling water, mesmerizing colors on the leaves … I was completely transported.

Turns out canoeing is more of a workout than I thought it would be. All that upper body movement.

Good thing I had some canine help along for the ride. My perfect idea of an “outward hound.”

After the leisurely trip, I was dying to check out some local antique stores.

Look, I had no choice. At a very young age, my parents took me with them on their antiquing afternoons, afraid to leave all three of their children alone at once. Which was very understandable at the timeĀ  — I almost died on a number of occasions. What else might happen with two older brothers ruling over you?

They lured me away with promises of McDonald’s and sundaes (just what a fatty needed, more crap food). It worked. And while I found the antiques to be ridiculously boring, I’m appreciative of all those countless afternoons now.

I have a great eye for old things, and not the shitty ones, either. Antiquing is such a thrill. And yes, I’m all about Antiques Roadshow.
