Magic Mantra Meditation.

Yesterday Brother and I both agreed that we’d like to set aside time each day to practice a mantra meditation.

Mantra meditation … WTF?

Is that what you’re thinking?

Hey, I could’ve busted out with Kirtan. I bet that really would have gotten you thinking, what the F is Kirtan?

Allow me to explain. But not about Kirtan, you can read up on that on your own.

Mantra meditation is just what it sounds like. Meditating, with a mantra.

It’s more like chanting sounds while you’re meditating.

The point of this is to give the mind something to focus on and keep it from wandering, as often times {quickly} happens.

It is also believed, that mantras are very powerful, and if done correctly, can yield significant results.

As a devotee and instructor of Kundalini Yoga, mantra meditations are nothing new.

I’m a big fan of Yogi Bhajan.

His teachings, meditations and kriyas are nothing short of life changing and miraculous.

But don’t take my word for it — try it out yourself sometime.

Let me interject here that I feel ridiculously lucky to have a Brother with whom I’m able to share meditation, yoga and in general, hang with all the time.

Seriously. It’s so cool.

Anyway. Without further ado: Magic Mantra Meditation.

As a heads up, because I think this is important to know upfront, this meditation takes 31 minutes.

That’s right. Not 30 or 35 but 31.

However, don’t let the 31 minute time stamp scare you off.

Make it a challenge for yourself.

Here goes.

Sit in a comfortable meditation posture {legs crossed in front/easy pose/whatever feels right for you}.

Lift hands to heart level, palms up. Your elbows are relaxed at the sides.

Form a shallow cup of the hands, sides of palms and Mercury fingers {pinkies} together, thumbs out and away from hands. Edges of the “cup” should be about 30 degrees from parallel.

The important thing is to keep the line of Mercury connected at the edges of the palms and little fingers.

Normally there will be no opening, however, some people will have a gap between their little fingers – keep it to a minimum.

Look into your hands but keep your eyes closed and chant the following in a monotone, letting the breath naturally find itself:

Ek Ong Kar

Sat Gur Prasad

Now. Once saying it. You want to reverse it.

Example: Ek Ong Kar Sat Gur Prasad. Then. Sat Gur Prasad Ek Ong Kar.

You continue between the two … for yes, 31 minutes.

This is known to be an extremely powerful and potent mantra … hence, the “magic” in the name.

A couple days of practice can give you a certain stimulation which is beyond explanation.

It is very rare that the Mercury fingers are joined in this way, but that is what makes the difference.

“Ek Ong Kar Sat Gur Prasad” is the most powerful of all mantras. There is nothing equal to it, nor can anything explain it.

It is so strong that it elevates the self beyond duality and establishes the flow of spirit. It will make the mind so powerful that it will remove all obstacles.

We call it the magic mantra because its positive effect happens quickly and lasts a long time.

BUT. It HAS to be chanted with REVERENCE, in a place of reverence.

When you meditate on this mantra, be sure that your surroundings are serene and reverent and that you practice it with reverence.

You can mock any mantra you like except this one because it is known to have a backlash.

The above info on this mantra was taken from Gururattan Kaur Khalsa {that’s a mouthful of a name} and Yogi Bhajan — not my Total Taurus words.

Now I’ve got to say. I was a bit intimidated and put off by two things:

1. 31 minutes. Enough said on that front.

2. The Backlash. Backlash — WTF!

So of course, in the middle — more like in the beginning, middle, end and every time in between, I was totally freaked out that I wasn’t chanting with enough “reverence.”

Was I going to get a backlash?!

Was I chanting the words correctly?

Shit.

Back to the mantra.

Wait. Where are we? Follow along where Brother is.

Repeat the above five lines about 9393849384 times and that’s what my mind was like.

Yeah, slightly out of control.

Now I understand why when meditating longer it’s helpful to be using a mantra.

After what seemed like a minimum of 71 minutes, Brother, let me know that we had five minutes to go.

Five minutes!

I put all my focus on Ek Ong Kar Sat Gur Prasad.

I got this reverence thing.

And at the end of it all … yes, I could tell a difference.

I almost felt dazed and like I’d taken a Perca {as in percocet} but it was a real high. I mean, a natural high.

I’ll take ’em.

I felt good and energized for hours.

Ideally, it is best to stick to one meditation for 40 days. I’m going to try my best to keep up with this one.

Plus, I’m curious to see if obstacles are removed … or at least somewhat not as prominent.

Important research for you guys.
