Heart Power.

One thing {of many, obvs} that I love about Brother is just what a damn smarty he is.

Seriously, People. He seems to know everything about everything … trees to history to where any city in the world is, even weird obscure ones I’ve never heard about like,  Tushan {Turkey} and languages, science, the body, literally everything.

And it’s done in the most f-ing effortless, non bragging, downlow kind of way. He constantly is busting out with some fact or some something or another that leaves me, Maman, and well, pretty much everyone around him, asking, where in the hell did that come from?

If the ship is going to go down, he better be on it with me. Well, of course he would. Where else would he be? I’m borderline obsessed with him. It’s a good thing, a damn good thing I should add, that he and The BF hit it off so well — yes, a total relationship pre-req. How could it not be?

In fact, I love watching the two of them together. How similar, and in synch they are. How much fun they have, all of us have. Very thankful for that.

The other night, or should I say, morning, as we were hanging in front of the warm fire, Brother busts out with : you know the heart has a brain of its own.

Say what?

Straight up from these smarty sciencey, medicaley People {and because there’s no way I could accurately summarize} :  the heart is now recognized by scientists as a highly complex system with its own functional “brain.”

Allow the sciencey to continue a little more :

The nervous system within the heart (or “heart brain”) enables it to learn, remember, and make functional decisions independent of the brain’s cerebral cortex. Moreover, numerous experiments have demonstrated that the signals the heart continuously sends to the brain influence the function of higher brain centers involved in perception, cognition, and emotional processing The heart generates the body’s most powerful and most extensive rhythmic electromagnetic field.Compared to the electromagnetic field produced by the brain, the electrical component of the heart’s field is about 60 times greater in amplitude, and permeates every cell in the body. The magnetic component is approximately 5000 times stronger than the brain’s magnetic field and can be detected several feet away from the body with sensitive magnetometers.

I’m sure, for many of us, this only confirms what we already knew : our heart is much much much more powerful than we can imagine and it plays a much larger role in the overall well being of our body.

I was particularly interested that our electromagnetic field was mentioned in this article. Yoga always sites the importance of working our electromagnetic field. Kundalini yoga refers to it as our eighth chakra. It is known to combine/draw from all our other energy centers in the body. Therefore, when our electromagnetic field {which is fact that we have one} is strong, we will be strong, clear, and intune.

It also references the effects positivity has on the heart and in evening out our brain wave patterns, as well as a whole host of other fascinating points. Definitely worth the read.

And definitely worth taking the time to pay attention to your heart … to really listen and honor what its communicating in the form of our feelings.

It is no coincidence that we feel heartache in love, or likewise, elation and happiness. Everything is inter-related; connected.

This is why I put forth the time to work on my inner, to do yoga and be committed to a strong practice — it puts me that much more in alignment with my body and knowing what’s best for me … that intuitiveness that I am trying my best to listen to and follow through on.

Forget brain power. I think we’re entering a phase where it’s going to be all about the heart power. Letting that guide our days. As we’ve known all along it should.

Anytime I would come to Maman not knowing what to do about someone or some situation, she only had to ask one question, what is your heart telling you?

Sometimes it was hard to hear what it was saying, I wasn’t used to stopping, to be in the stillness and ask what it thought. But when I did take the time, I found there was always an answer.

And it never guided me wrong. Our hearts know, People. We know that they know even when we ignore them.

We have the answers inside of us. We just need to listen now. That’s the hardest part, I think, the listening. But.

Isn’t it wonderful! To know that all we have to do is listen. Our heart will fill in the rest.
